The next CARA / IRF Oceania meeting is scheduled for Wed 5th Sept at 'Tall Timbers', Smithton in far NW Tas.
The meeting is in conjunction with a Tas P&WS conference on Thurs 6th, at which up to 30 places have been set aside for CARA delegates. It is proposed to conduct a field trip to indigenous heritage sites along the Tarkine coast.
All ARCV members are welcome to attend, if you are considering this please send an email to info@arcv.org.au so the committee can coordinate with the Tasmanian Rangers Association.
Final costs for the conference component haven't been worked out yet as the venue is logistically challenging being remote from airports (Launceston - 3 hours & Hobart - 5 hours). So it would be useful to know how many visiting rangers are planning to self-drive, or if they'll require transport to the venue.
A post-CARA 4 day hike (11-14th Sept) on Tassie's latest 'flagship' experience, the 3 Capes Track on Tasman Peninsula, is being offered at a discounted cost of $360. This includes a scenic boat tour to the track-head with the award-winning Pennicott Cruises, and a bus pick-up from Fortescue Bay to return walkers back to Port Arthur.
There is also an opportunity to visit ranger staff in parks (Cradle Mtn, Lake St Clair, Maria Island) prior to CARA for a limited number. Some rangers have already expressed an interest in doing the 5 day Overland track hike from Cradle to Lake St Clair during their visit, though this is a winter trip in the alpine zone.
For assistance with travel and accommodation bookings you can contact the not-for-profit travel agent Jane Evans at 'Travel with a Cause' (also PAWA's preferred agent), who is an agent for Spirit of Tas ferries.
